I Love Dim Sum @ Table8

The Trip
After filming for months for my programme - Fashion Ambush, at last I was able to take a few days off for a short vacation. Amy & I landed in Jakarta for 4 days visiting my friends (Susan, Widi & their son Sander) and we felt like having Dim Sum today and went to Table8 at Hotel Mulia for lunch. It was awesome!

The Interior
First, I simply adore the decor! A series of 24 pagodas of different heights displayed right in the middle of the main dining hall. A chandelier made of thousands of chains were hanging from above the super high ceilings suppose to illustrate the Dragon Beard in a modern way. We sat on a raised platform under a canopy right at the end of the restaurant which gave us a good view of the whole place. I simply love the photo printed cushions on the chairs. How I wish they sell those cushions to diners or maybe give it to us as souvenir???? But new ones please?

The Food
Besides the plush settings, the food was fantastic! We eventually settled on the buffet even though we had only an hour to eat before the lunch hour end (because our dear friend - Amy only woke up at 12 30pm). Anyway it consist of Cantonese Dim Sum, Szechuan food, ever classic street delights and a good selection of deserts. Must try items are the grilled prawns & beef! It was grilled to perfection!

The Price
The price was totally unbelievable! You would think it will cost a bomb in a such a classy restaurant in a 5 stars hotel but it cost only around 150,000 Rupiahs per pax which is less than S$25. It was definitely worth every single cent.

The Downside
The only downside is that we are not allowed to take pictures of the place unless there are human elements in it. WHAT????? EXACTLY!!! I was equally puzzled and was stop twice for trying to snap a shot at the pagodas. I was lucky they didn't make me delete the images on my camera like how the celebs make the paparazzi do when they are discovered.

And the manager was not very polite when he approach me! I mean how the hell will we know if there are no notices that we ain't allow to snap pictures of the interior only. I seriously do not understand what is the logic behind it that it has to have human element in it. Are they worried that the ancient subjects will pop up from their cushion and ceiling? Or do they think we are dining in the Sultan's palace or something??? This is ridiculous!

The Good
But I have to admit the service was fantastic during our meal though! The staff serving us were attentive, friendly and very helpful. And of cos these waiters and waitress got a big fat tips from me in front of the manager and you might have guess by now who didn't get it. No prizes for guessing correctly! :)
